A homeowner in Albuquerque shot and killed an alleged intruder who broke into their home early Tuesday morning, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. near Lost Horizon Drive on the city’s West Mesa.
The homeowner reportedly fired on the intruder during the break-in. Deputies arrived to find the suspect critically injured and attempted life-saving measures. However, the suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the case, but as of now, no charges have been filed against the homeowner. Many in Albuquerque, a city grappling with rising crime, have voiced strong support for the right to self-defense.
Social media comments reflected frustration with the current crime wave. “When the police show up, it’s often too late,” one person wrote. Others praised the homeowner for standing up to criminals, with one commenter saying, “This is why we need the 2nd Amendment!”
The shooting remains under investigation, but many residents have expressed their belief that protecting one’s home and family is a fundamental right.
