Cheeseburgers Recalled In 5 States Over Listeria Contamination Concerns

Dakota Tom’s Sandwiches has voluntarily recalled several cheeseburger products after concerns over possible Listeria contamination. The recall, announced on Friday, involves the “Pepperjack Cheeseburger,” “Bacon Cheeseburger,” and “The Gambler.” These products were distributed to stores in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wyoming.

This action follows a larger recall by BrucePac, the supplier of the meat used in the cheeseburgers, which initially recalled close to 10 million pounds of meat earlier this month due to possible Listeria contamination. That recall has since expanded to 11.8 million pounds, further raising concerns for consumers and businesses alike.

Although no illnesses have been reported, consumers are being advised not to consume the affected cheeseburgers. Instead, they should return the products to the point of purchase for a full refund or safely dispose of them. The FDA warns that Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria linked to the contamination, can cause serious infections, especially in children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are at particular risk, as Listeria infections can result in miscarriages or stillbirths.

The USDA has posted a detailed list of the affected meat and poultry products on their website. The recalled cheeseburgers were distributed to a variety of outlets, including schools, which adds another layer of concern. Dakota Tom’s is working to ensure that all affected products are removed from shelves, and consumers are encouraged to take caution and avoid the recalled items.
