China’s Election Interference Kept Trudeau’s Liberals In Power While Government Concealed Evidence

Evidence continues to mount that China worked behind the scenes to influence Canada’s elections — ensuring Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party remained in power. Intelligence findings have confirmed Beijing’s involvement — yet the Canadian government has refused to release crucial details.

Reports from security agencies show that China used covert financial networks to back certain candidates in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 elections. Investigators found that at least 11 candidates — mostly from Trudeau’s Liberal Party — received funds through Chinese diplomatic sources. Despite repeated calls for transparency — officials have not disclosed the names of those who benefited.

Beijing’s influence operations go beyond elections. Intelligence officials warn that China has worked for decades to establish relationships with lawmakers, media figures, and business leaders to steer Canadian policies in a direction favorable to the Chinese Communist Party. These operations have been described as persistent and highly organized.

One of the most alarming breaches tied to Chinese influence involves Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory. Two scientists were removed from their positions after intelligence agencies determined they had transferred classified research to China. Despite the seriousness of the case — the Trudeau government initially resisted disclosing details — citing national security concerns.

Attempts to hold public inquiries into China’s election interference and security breaches have been repeatedly shut down. A parliamentary committee investigating foreign interference was met with resistance from government officials — who ensured much of the process remained behind closed doors. A separate probe into the Winnipeg lab scandal also faced delays and secrecy.

With concerns growing over China’s influence — U.S. lawmakers are now seeking intelligence briefings on Beijing’s infiltration of Canada. Officials in Washington are questioning Canada’s ability to counter foreign interference — given the Trudeau administration’s track record of blocking transparency.
