With Vice President Kamala Harris now the presumptive Democratic candidate for president, Democrats and their media allies are working hard to rewrite the record of the Biden administration. Despite attempts to paint a rosy picture, many Americans remember the challenges they faced under President Joe Biden’s leadership.
Harris, who was a key part of Biden’s administration, is now being promoted as a fresh face for the Democratic Party. However, her involvement in the administration’s policies means she shares responsibility for its record. This hasn’t stopped left-wing media from trying to create a different narrative.
Democrats Attempt To Rewrite Biden’s Record As Harris Campaigns
Several recent articles have praised Biden’s presidency. Slate, for example, claimed that Biden achieved “full employment” and suggested that the labor market improvements outweighed rising household costs. This narrative is hard to sell to many Americans who are struggling with high inflation and increased living expenses. A CNN poll revealed that 39% of Americans are worried about meeting their family’s expenses, a concern that has grown since the Great Recession.
The Columbus Dispatch went even further, asserting that Biden had accomplished more good in four years than any president since Abraham Lincoln. However, this view is contested by those who point to the administration’s handling of inflation, the collapse of the personal savings rate, and the soaring national debt, which now stands at nearly $35 trillion. Additionally, the U.S. debt was downgraded for the second time under Biden’s watch, a first for any president.
The issue of illegal immigration has also been a significant part of Biden’s tenure. Reports indicate that the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. doubled under his administration. Harris, who was put in charge of addressing the root causes of immigration, now faces media attempts to downplay her role as the “border czar.”
Despite efforts to change the narrative, the challenges of the Biden administration cannot be easily forgotten. From economic difficulties to the border crisis and foreign policy missteps, the record stands as a significant hurdle for Harris. The media may try to reshape public perception, but the reality of the past four years is still fresh in the minds of many Americans.
