CNN political analyst and former Trump 2020 communications director Marc Lotter recently shared troubling news for Democrats in battleground states. Lotter analyzed early voting numbers, which show significant shortfalls for Democrats in key areas that could be critical to their chances in the election.
“The math doesn’t work,” Lotter stated, pointing to early vote deficits in important Democratic strongholds. According to Lotter, Democrats are currently trailing by 1.7 million early votes in urban areas within battleground states, a significant setback given that these areas are typically strongholds for the party. This shortfall suggests that Democrats may be struggling to capture the early momentum they often depend on in these regions.

Lotter also highlighted an additional deficit among a core Democratic demographic: women. He noted that Democrats are currently “down 1.4 million votes in the battleground states among women voters.” This gap among women, a group that usually leans Democratic, indicates potential enthusiasm issues within key segments of the party’s base.
Further complicating the Democrats’ situation is a surge in early voting among rural voters, who tend to favor Republicans. Lotter pointed out that rural turnout has “overperformed early by 300,000.” With rural areas typically voting Republican, this increase could give the GOP an extra edge heading into Election Day.
Lotter concluded by underscoring the importance of these numbers, explaining that “Democrats have to win their races early; Republicans generally win them on Election Day.” In other words, Democrats often rely on strong early voting tallies, while Republicans tend to make up ground later.

With Democrats behind in early voting across battleground states, Republicans may have a unique opportunity to capitalize on this momentum. A strong turnout on Election Day could further secure these crucial states for President Donald Trump, potentially leading to a decisive victory.
