Elon Musk is boosting his security after being labeled “Public Enemy No. 2” by Der Spiegel, a German news outlet that criticized his support for Donald Trump. Musk claims that the mainstream media is fostering a climate that encourages violence against both him and Trump, warning that media attacks are making him a target.
At a Pittsburgh town hall, Musk spoke about the increasing political tension as the 2024 election approaches. He highlighted the danger posed by media portrayals like the Der Spiegel cover, which presents him and Trump as threats to democracy. Musk expressed concern that such portrayals could motivate unhinged individuals to take violent action. “With their relentless hit pieces, legacy mainstream media are actively encouraging the assassination of @realDonaldTrump and now me,” he said on X.
Musk, who has pledged millions in support of Trump’s campaign efforts, also discussed his decision to increase security. “I’m definitely upgrading my security. Guess I better cancel that open-car parade,” he quipped, referencing JFK’s assassination. Despite his heightened security concerns, Musk continues to advocate for free speech and fair elections, stating that he feels compelled to stay involved in the political arena.
Musk also commented on the stark difference in behavior between the political left and right. He noted that while conservatives may view their opponents as misguided, the left has escalated its rhetoric to dangerous levels, fueling hostility and hatred.
