
European officials are now instructing residents to prepare for survival as war fears grow, all while pushing ahead with military plans that have ignored repeated U.S. calls for peace. A new emergency preparedness plan announced by EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib is urging households to maintain enough supplies to get through three days without assistance.

This comes as the European Union remains committed to an aggressive stance on Russia, investing in its ReArm Europe program and expanding its defense capabilities. The €800 billion plan will be used to strengthen military infrastructure and develop new systems for warfare — both digital and conventional.

France, Germany and Sweden have already begun implementing new policies. France is drafting survival manuals. Germany is exploring whether existing buildings can be repurposed into fallout shelters. Sweden has refreshed its civil defense advice for the public to reflect current threats.

Macron and other leaders have voiced support for placing European troops in Ukraine after the fighting ends. Russia’s foreign minister responded strongly to that idea, calling any foreign presence in Ukraine unacceptable. Yet leaders continue to suggest deeper involvement in the conflict.
Poland is also stepping up. Prime Minister Donald Tusk is requiring men to undergo training and has proposed that the country build a nuclear weapons program. He claimed that Ukraine’s disarmament left it vulnerable and that Poland must avoid the same mistake.

Lahbib emphasized the importance of keeping a shortwave radio, medicine and official documents in addition to food and water. She also pushed for better coordination between EU countries in the event of a widespread emergency.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has warned that Russia may be capable of launching an offensive in Europe within five years.
