Gavin Newsom Blames ‘Disinformation’ To Deflect From Wildfire Mismanagement

As wildfires continue to ravage California, Gov. Gavin Newsom is shifting the blame from his administration’s failures to what he calls “misinformation.” Rather than addressing the underlying issues fueling the crisis, Newsom is urging President Joe Biden to crack down on speech that criticizes his handling of the disaster.

During a video call with Biden, Newsom warned of “hurricane-force winds of mis- and disinformation” circulating online. This plea comes as Californians are losing their homes and firefighters struggle to contain the fires with limited resources. Newsom appears more focused on silencing criticism than solving the problems at hand.

The state’s emergency response has been crippled by years of budget cuts and mismanagement. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s leadership has left the fire department understaffed and underfunded. On top of that, Newsom’s refusal to release water from the California Delta has left fire hydrants dry, making it harder to fight the fires.

Former President Donald Trump called out Newsom for prioritizing environmental policies over public safety. “They send it out to the Pacific because they’re trying to protect a tiny, little fish,” Trump said, highlighting how misguided regulations have prevented critical water access.

Newsom’s request for Biden to combat so-called misinformation is part of a troubling pattern among Democrat leaders. This effort to suppress public criticism mirrors the actions of federal agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which has faced backlash for monitoring and censoring online speech.

Instead of taking responsibility and providing solutions, Newsom is deflecting blame by labeling criticism as “disinformation.” This tactic allows him to avoid addressing the clear leadership failures that contributed to California’s wildfire crisis.

Californians deserve real leadership that prioritizes public safety — not a governor more concerned with protecting his political image than protecting lives.
