GOP Lawmakers Target Judges Blocking Trump’s Policy Agenda

House Republicans are moving forward with impeachment proceedings against two federal judges who have ruled against key Trump administration policies. Conservative lawmakers argue that these rulings represent judicial overreach aimed at undermining the president’s authority.

Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) is leading the charge against U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer, who issued a ruling preventing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury data. Crane has criticized the ruling as an unconstitutional restriction on the president’s ability to manage executive agencies.

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) is introducing impeachment measures against U.S. District Judge John McConnell Jr., who blocked Trump’s order to freeze certain federal spending. Clyde has described the ruling as politically motivated and designed to obstruct government efficiency efforts.

During a recent press briefing, Trump suggested that Congress should consider taking action against judges issuing rulings that block his administration’s initiatives. Vice President J.D. Vance has also criticized judicial interference, arguing that some courts are attempting to dictate executive policy.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has joined the effort, calling for judges to be held accountable for rulings that hinder Trump’s policies. She stated that the judiciary should not be used as a tool to block a duly elected president from enacting his agenda.

Though the impeachment effort may pass in the House, convicting and removing a judge requires a two-thirds majority in the Senate, a threshold that has not been met in over a decade. The last successful judicial impeachment and removal occurred in 2010.
