CBS Evening News co-anchor John Dickerson came under fire after claiming that migration at the southern border is at its lowest level since the Trump administration, despite the fact that over 10 million migrants have illegally crossed into the US under President Joe Biden’s leadership. The comment, which aired during a campaign roundup, sparked accusations that CBS is deliberately downplaying the border crisis
CBS's John Dickerson: "We know the parties are ideologically put opposed, but there's also a division on basic facts. One example, the border. Migration has at its lowest level since the Trump administration. But the polls show not everyone sees it that way, do they?"

Dickerson’s claim came during a discussion with CBS correspondent Weijia Jiang, who highlighted polling data showing a sharp divide between Democrats and Republicans on the border issue. According to the poll, 67% of Democrats believe the administration has attempted to reduce migration, while 65% of Republicans think Biden’s policies have increased illegal crossings.
Dickerson’s focus on recent migration data obscured the larger picture. Since Biden took office, the US has experienced one of the largest surges in illegal immigration in its history, with millions crossing the southern border. These numbers dwarf anything seen during the Trump administration, but Dickerson failed to mention them, giving viewers a distorted view of the situation.

Conservative critics have long pointed to the media’s bias when it comes to immigration. By focusing on selective data points, CBS and other outlets have shielded the administration from criticism, leaving Americans in border states to deal with the consequences of unchecked migration.

Law enforcement and border officials have been sounding the alarm for months, warning that the situation is unsustainable. But instead of addressing these concerns, Dickerson and CBS continue to push narratives that deflect attention away from the real crisis unfolding at the border.
