Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser Criticizes New Orleans Mayor For Failing To Keep City Safe

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser has voiced serious concerns about New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s ability to maintain safety in the city. His criticism follows a New Year’s Eve terror attack that shook the city and raised questions about local leadership.

In an interview with the Christian Post, Nungesser expressed disappointment in Cantrell’s response to the city’s security needs. “Prior to this horrible incident, I was seeing major changes and improvements in crime in the quarter,” he said. “In saying that, the mayor is completely — I don’t want to say she doesn’t have a clue — she just doesn’t care.”

Nungesser assured that security would be bolstered during major events like Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl. He highlighted the increased involvement of federal agencies, state police and nearby sheriff’s offices to protect residents and tourists. “We are going to make this city safe,” he promised, emphasizing New Orleans’ unique culture, food and music.

He also applauded Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) for deploying state troopers to New Orleans, a move aimed at safeguarding the state’s $1.9 billion tourism industry. Nungesser praised Landry for acting swiftly to protect the city’s vital economic interests.

Previously, Nungesser criticized Cantrell’s lack of visible leadership after the terror attack, calling her “nonexistent.” He condemned the absence of barriers that could have mitigated the destruction caused by the ISIS-inspired attacker.

The criticism adds pressure on Mayor Cantrell as New Orleans prepares for upcoming large-scale events, with security now under intense scrutiny.
