Luna Accuses Big Business Of Undermining Kennedy’s Path To HHS Leadership

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is raising concerns that major corporations are working to prevent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from becoming the next Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary under President Donald Trump. She claims that industries benefiting from widespread health issues are pressuring lawmakers to block his confirmation.

Kennedy is scheduled to appear before two Senate committees next week. The Finance Committee, which will vote on whether to advance his nomination, will hold its hearing on Wednesday. The following day, Kennedy will testify before the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.

Luna believes lawmakers rejecting Kennedy’s nomination would be ignoring Trump’s commitment to improving public health. She has been a strong advocate of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement and says senators siding against Kennedy risk alienating many Trump supporters who prioritize health-focused reforms.

Some Republican senators on the Finance Committee have not yet revealed their stance. Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Todd Young of Indiana and Thom Tillis of North Carolina have not committed to supporting Kennedy’s confirmation. Cassidy has expressed skepticism regarding Kennedy’s vaccine views, while Young’s team has described his recent meeting with Kennedy as productive. Tillis, meanwhile, has suggested he will support Trump’s nominees but has not taken a clear position.

Luna has previously pushed legislation to restrict artificial additives in food products and promote more transparent labeling. Though those measures did not advance, she remains committed to efforts aimed at improving food safety and sees Kennedy’s nomination as a critical step in that direction.

In addition to concerns over Kennedy’s stance on vaccines, some senators have raised issues regarding his positions on farming practices and food regulations. The Finance Committee is expected to hold a vote in the coming weeks, which will determine whether his nomination moves forward.
