State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-NJ) is calling for a temporary ban on drones as sightings of unidentified aerial vehicles over New Jersey spark growing concerns. The drones, which have been reported since mid-November, remain a mystery, prompting calls for stronger action from state and federal authorities.
“The State of New Jersey should issue a limited state of emergency banning all drones until the public receives an explanation regarding these multiple sightings,” Bramnick wrote on X.
Witnesses have described drones with bright lights hovering over locations such as President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course and the Picatinny Arsenal military base. The sightings have now expanded to Staten Island, New York, increasing urgency for answers.
Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. (R-NJ) has demanded federal intervention, urging the FAA and Department of Homeland Security to dedicate resources to investigating the mysterious drones. “The safety and privacy of our residents must be a top priority,” Kean said, emphasizing the need for transparency.
Gov. Phil Murphy (D) acknowledged the situation, assuring residents that there is no immediate threat but that authorities are closely monitoring the drone activity. “We are coordinating with federal and law enforcement partners to address these concerns,” Murphy said.
As investigations continue, Bramnick’s call for an emergency ban reflects the growing frustration of residents and officials. The unexplained sightings have become a pressing issue, underscoring the need for swift action to address the potential risks associated with the drones.
