In a controversial move, the Biden administration is auctioning off unused border wall materials in the final weeks of its term, drawing accusations of deliberate sabotage against President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
The Daily Wire reported that massive piles of steel bollard wall sections, which sat idle throughout Biden’s presidency, are now being hauled away from key sites in Arizona, including Tucson and Nogales. The materials are being sold through GovPlanet, a government auction site, with starting bids set at $5.
Videos obtained by the Daily Wire show trucks transporting the wall sections north. According to Customs and Border Protection whistleblowers, up to half a mile of wall materials are being removed daily. The process appears aimed at clearing all unused sections from border sites by Christmas.
Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) slammed the administration’s actions, stating, “Any last-ditch attempt to obstruct this mandate by the Biden administration would be a direct affront to the will of the people.” Crane’s remarks reflect widespread frustration among border security advocates who see the move as politically motivated.
The materials, which could have been used to continue construction, were left unused throughout Biden’s presidency. Meanwhile, millions of illegal immigrants poured into the country, creating what many see as a crisis at the southern border.
Trump has promised to restart construction on the wall through executive action. Critics of the Biden administration argue that the auction of these materials is not only wasteful but also undermines national security and the will of the voters.
