Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, announced after last Thursday’s presidential debate, may not have the desired impact. Swift endorsed Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Instagram, praising their dedication to progressive issues.
The latest YouGov poll shows that only 8% of voters are more likely to support Harris due to Swift’s endorsement. Meanwhile, 20% of respondents indicated they are less likely to vote for Harris because of this endorsement. A significant 66% of voters said Swift’s announcement made no difference in their voting decision.
Opinions about celebrity endorsements are divided. About 41% of those surveyed think Swift should avoid discussing political matters, while 38% support her right to endorse candidates. The poll also reveals that 66% of respondents are not fans of Swift, whereas 28% are fans and 6% are “big fans,” predominantly women and registered Democrats.
Swift’s endorsement led to a spike in visits to vote.gov, with over 337,000 people accessing the site through her link. Despite this, the influence of Swift’s support on Harris’s campaign appears minimal.
Furthermore, while 46% of people thought Harris won the recent debate compared to 19% for former President Donald Trump, only 6% said the debate changed their voting intentions. The YouGov poll results indicate that celebrity endorsements might not significantly affect voter behavior in the upcoming election.
