President Donald Trump Takes Aim At Maine Governor As Investigation Begins

President Donald Trump is holding Maine Gov. Janet Mills accountable for rejecting his executive order protecting women’s sports, making an example of her as the Trump administration launches a federal investigation into the state’s policies.

During a White House meeting with governors, President Donald Trump confronted Mills, asking whether Maine would comply with the federal order banning male athletes from competing in women’s sports. Mills avoided a clear answer, saying the state follows both state and federal law. The president quickly warned that refusal to comply would mean an end to Maine’s federal education funding.

Mills responded, “See you in court.” President Donald Trump welcomed the legal battle, predicting an easy win and questioning whether Mills would have a political career beyond her current term.

Hours later, the Trump administration’s Department of Education announced a federal investigation into the Maine Department of Education. Officials cited allegations that Greely High School has allowed a male student to compete in girls’ athletics, raising concerns over compliance with Title IX.

Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for civil rights, reinforced the administration’s position, stating that Maine must follow federal law if it expects to continue receiving education funds. He made it clear that the Trump administration would not allow taxpayer dollars to support policies that undermine Title IX protections for female athletes.

At CPAC, President Donald Trump continued targeting Mills, highlighting her refusal to enforce federal law and telling the audience that her stance was harming women’s sports. The crowd responded with boos as he criticized her administration.
