Steve Doocy Defends Private Bank Records Searches By Biden DOJ

The co-host of Fox & Friends, Steve Doocy, recently argued against his colleagues’ anger over federal investigators analyzing bank and retail-related data to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), alongside the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, obtained documents demonstrating the search of bank records for conservative terms such as “MAGA” or “Trump,” as well as others like “Small Arms,” “Cabela’s” and “Dick’s Sporting Goods.”

In a letter, Jordan noted that the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) of the Department of Treasury had warned financial institutions of “extremist” products, such as books with religious text.

“According to this analysis, FinCEN warned financial institutions of ‘extremism’ indicators that include ‘transportation charges, such as bus tickets, rental cars, or plane tickets, for travel areas with no apparent purpose,’ or ‘the purchase of books (including religious texts) and subscriptions to other media containing extremist views,’” Jordan pointed out.

“In other words, FinCEN used large financial institutions to comb through the private transactions of their customers for suspicious charges on the basis of protected political and religious expression,” the House Judiciary Committee chairman added, according to Fox News.

Fox News reported that FinCEN would send materials to financial institutions to focus on terms such as “MAGA” and “Trump” when analyzing “Zelle payment messages,” among other things.

Fox News political correspondent Brooke Singman noted that FinCEN would not stop its data searches, prompting Doocy to argue that “this all happened during the Trump administration.”

Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt joined the conversation, saying, “Basically, we don’t have any privacy. This is such an invasion!”

Doocy claimed that the federal government was looking at bank records after the Jan. 6 protests because multiple Capitol police officers were “attacked” by Trump supporters.
“You know what Bass Pro, Cabela’s, and Dick’s Sporting Goods all sell? Bear spray,” he argued.

“There were a number of police officers, federal officers who were attacked, allegedly and some people have been convicted since then because they used bear spray… You attack a federal officer, there’s gonna be a federal investigation obviously. I don’t know. I’m just suggesting, they all sell bear spray,” Doocy continued.
