Homan revealed that he reached out to the Deputy U.S. Attorney General, requesting an opinion on whether Ocasio-Cortez’s webinar constituted obstruction of federal enforcement. He stated that interference with immigration operations is a serious matter and that legal clarification is necessary.

Ocasio-Cortez’s event, broadcast on her social media pages, was titled “Know Your Rights With ICE.” and focused on informing illegal immigrants of their legal rights. The session encouraged individuals to refuse ICE searches, remain silent, and exercise legal protections when confronted by federal agents.
Good. They are so quick to put people
In jail on trumped up charges. But this is not ok what they are doing. I’d be in jail if I interfered with an investigation. They should be held to the same standard— Joseph Lanier (@JosephLani13279) February 14, 2025
Following Homan’s remarks, Ocasio-Cortez fired back, accusing ICE of conducting illegal searches and breaking into homes without proper authorization. She claimed that her webinar was necessary to educate the public on how to respond to ICE enforcement actions.
While informing individuals of their rights is generally legal, Homan has raised concerns that the event may have crossed the line into obstruction. Legal experts note that warning individuals about ICE activity is a legally gray area and could lead to further scrutiny depending on the circumstances.
The DOJ has not confirmed whether it will investigate Ocasio-Cortez’s webinar. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has vowed to take action against any efforts to undermine immigration enforcement.
