Trump Administration All In On Effort To End Child Trafficking

President Donald Trump’s administration is intensifying efforts to combat child trafficking across the country, with a renewed focus on the southern border. Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff, highlighted the administration’s commitment, stating, “We’ve seen, as you know, half a million children trafficked over a four-year period in the United States. This administration is going to investigate every instance of child trafficking, labor trafficking, s–x trafficking, child smuggling, and all the attendant crimes involved in that.”

Recent testimony before Congress exposed the extent to which unaccompanied minors have been placed at risk due to failures in border policies. Tara Rodas, a whistleblower from HHS, revealed that thousands of children were placed with unvetted sponsors. She described these sponsors as often being connected to criminal organizations, including violent gangs like MS-13.

During the hearing, Alicia Hopper, a counter-trafficking expert, detailed how cartels exploit border policies to facilitate trafficking operations. She explained that smugglers refer to Border Patrol agents as “Migrant Uber,” as they know once children are processed, they are quickly handed over to sponsors without rigorous checks.

Retired Border Patrol agent J.J. Carrell testified about the rise of organ harvesting targeting unaccompanied children. He stated that minors traveling alone are particularly vulnerable, often disappearing without a trace after crossing the border. Carrell emphasized that this horrifying practice is growing and directly linked to inadequate enforcement.

Anti-trafficking advocate Lisa reported a surge in online ads for trafficked girls, with many of these ads targeting Spanish-speaking buyers. She noted that platforms like TikTok and Facebook have become tools for traffickers to advertise victims, most of whom are unaccompanied migrant girls.

Since 2021, Customs and Border Protection has encountered more than 500,000 unaccompanied minors at the southern border. Federal officials have reported that over 85,000 of these children remain unaccounted for after being placed with sponsors.
