Trump Cuts Perkins Coie’s Access To Classified Information Amid Security Concerns

Perkins Coie — the law firm with longstanding connections to Democratic legal battles — is facing new restrictions after President Donald Trump signed an executive order revoking security clearances held by its attorneys. The order also directs federal agencies to reduce business ties with the firm.

The decision follows Perkins Coie’s involvement in legal efforts dating back to the 2016 election — when it was responsible for hiring Fusion GPS. That firm later retained Christopher Steele — who created the now-discredited dossier alleging ties between Trump and Russia. The dossier was used to justify FBI surveillance against a Trump campaign member but was later found to contain unreliable claims.

Under Trump’s directive — federal agencies must suspend clearances held by Perkins Coie employees while reviewing whether their continued access to sensitive information aligns with national security interests. Agencies must also identify and sever financial ties to the firm where legally feasible.

Beyond its role in past investigations — Perkins Coie has been a key player in legal efforts challenging voter integrity laws. The firm has received funding from progressive donor networks — which have supported legal challenges aimed at rolling back voter ID requirements.

The administration has also pointed to the firm’s history of using race-based hiring practices — a policy Trump’s executive order condemns. The directive reinforces the administration’s push to prevent federal contracts from funding organizations engaged in such practices.

Trump’s latest action follows previous steps to revoke clearances from intelligence officials who misrepresented the Hunter Biden laptop story. The administration continues its effort to remove security access from individuals and groups tied to politically motivated investigations.
