USAID Falls Under DOGE Control As Trump Moves Against Leftist Bureaucracy

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has been thrown into turmoil after Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), operating under orders from President Donald Trump, froze the agency’s funding and locked its employees out of internal systems. The dramatic takeover has left top officials sidelined and sent shockwaves through Washington’s bureaucratic ranks.

DOGE agents took control of USAID’s financial networks and internal communications, cutting off employees from classified files and sensitive data. Two high-ranking security officials, including Director of Security John Voorhees, attempted to block access but were swiftly placed on leave. Over 600 employees were locked out of their accounts overnight, and by the next morning, headquarters in Washington had been cordoned off.

Musk has openly criticized USAID, calling it a “criminal organization” in a post on X. He confirmed that Trump had personally reviewed DOGE’s findings and agreed that shutting down the agency was necessary. A White House statement condemned USAID for its unaccountable spending on global DEI initiatives, LGBTQ outreach programs, and wasteful tourism subsidies. Officials argue the agency has functioned as a financial arm for leftist causes rather than serving American interests.

Investigations into USAID’s financial dealings have uncovered links to Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company at the center of the Biden family controversy. There is also evidence that USAID funds have indirectly supported lawfare efforts against Trump, raising alarms about the agency’s role in domestic politics. Critics argue that only a small percentage of USAID’s $40 billion budget goes toward actual aid, with much of it lost in bureaucratic waste.

Democratic lawmakers have responded with outrage, filing lawsuits against DOGE and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over alleged unauthorized access to employee financial records. Senate Democrats are demanding answers from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, questioning the legality of DOGE’s actions and seeking clarity on the agency’s future.

As tensions rise, USAID’s website and public records have been taken offline. The administration is reportedly considering folding USAID into the State Department, which would strip it of its independent authority. For now, DOGE remains in control, and career bureaucrats who once held unchecked power are now facing intense scrutiny.
