Walz Faces Backlash Over CRT Advocate Who Once Called For US To Be ‘Overthrown’

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is under fire for appointing Brian Lozenski, a known supporter of Critical Race Theory (CRT), to help design the state’s education standards. Critics are pointing to Lozenski’s past comments, where he advocated for the overthrow of the United States, raising concerns about the direction of public education in Minnesota.

Lozenski, an associate professor at Macalester College, was recently named to a working group responsible for developing Minnesota’s ethnic studies curriculum. A video from Lozenski’s past resurfaced, showing him asserting that one cannot be both a critical race theorist and a supporter of the U.S. government. “You can’t be a critical race theorist and be pro-U.S.,” he stated, adding that the U.S. should be “overthrown.”

This has triggered widespread concern among conservatives and parents, many of whom are already wary of CRT being introduced in schools. Several states have moved to ban CRT, citing it as divisive and harmful to students. Meanwhile, Walz’s administration appears to be moving in the opposite direction by giving a CRT advocate a significant role in shaping the curriculum.

Walz’s decision has prompted calls for him to reconsider the appointment, with critics accusing him of promoting radical ideologies in Minnesota’s education system. The controversy is likely to resonate with voters, as the debate over CRT remains a hot-button issue heading into the 2024 election.

With this appointment, Walz’s education policies are now under intense scrutiny, and the future of Minnesota’s public school system is becoming a central issue for many concerned parents and conservative voters.
