Leftist talk show host Bill Maher was recently mocked by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and users on X, formerly known on Twitter, for failing to acknowledge a joke that conservative commentator Jack Posobiec made during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
While speaking at CPAC, Posobiec made an ironic comment over the “end of democracy,” joking that conservatives would do more than they did during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests to “overthrow” the federal government.
“We are here to overthrow it completely. We didn’t get all the way there on January 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this right here,” the conservative commentator joked. “All glory is not to government. All glory to God.”
Posobiec’s remarks garnered attention from many on the left, including Maher, who ignored the irony of the conservative commentator’s statement.
Posobiec pointed out that Democrats are the ones trying to destroy the U.S. by rigging elections, failing to secure the southern border, arresting political opponents and censoring social media posts they disagree with.
The conservative commentator’s comments regarding the “end of democracy” mocked the mainstream media and the left’s claims that conservatives are trying to end the republic despite Democrats being the ones demonstrating such actions. Many liberals, including Maher, failed to realize this.
Even Bill Maher and his writers got triggered by @JackPosobiec’s obvious joke at CPAC.

While speaking with Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon, Maher brought up Posobiec and quoted his remarks at CPAC.
“Am I missing a joke? Or it seems now they are saying the quiet part out loud? This is their big convention and you have a guy like this and the crowd is loving it. ‘Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it? January 6 was good, now we’re gonna finish the job?’ Thoughts?” Maher said.
In response, Ungar-Sargon corrected Maher and pointed out that Posobiec was joking and was ironically noting how the mainstream media views conservatives.
“Bill, that was a joke about Trump making a joke about being a dictator day one in office. That was an ironic take on how the liberal media sees conservatives,” Ungar-Sargon said.
“Am I missing the irony,” Maher followed up.
“I think so, yes,” Ungar-Sargon responded. “This is a joke.”
Musk later replied to a clip showing the conversation between Maher and Ungar-Sargon, saying, “Ironically, he missed the irony.”
Like many other self-professed liberals, Bill Maher is blind to irony and jokes if it’s a right winger making the joke. They just can’t fathom the possibility that someone other than themselves might have a sense of humor. So ready to be offended. pic.twitter.com/nY14msm2S6

Journalist and political commentator Tim Pool also offered his thoughts on Maher’s reaction, writing, “Wow embarrassing.”
