On Wednesday, Joe Biden shared a dramatic story about his uncle being shot down over Papua New Guinea during World War II — another Biden tall tale that military records have sharply contradicted. According to Biden, Ambrose Finnegan, whom he affectionately refers to as “Uncle Bosie,” was a pilot shot down in an area rife with cannibals. However, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency reports indicate that Finnegan’s aircraft crashed due to engine failure and was forced to ditch in the ocean, not on land, as Biden claims.
At several public events, Biden recounted how his uncle volunteered for a reconnaissance flight over New Guinea because another pilot couldn’t make it. He described a harrowing tale of Finnegan’s plane being brought down in cannibal-infested territory, suggesting that his body was never recovered because it was possibly eaten by natives.
Joe Biden's Tall Tale of 'Uncle Bosie' Being Eaten by Cannibals Gets a SAVAGE Fact-Check

“They never recovered his body, but the government went back when I went down there, and they checked and found some parts of the plane,” Biden said. However, records show he conducted no such mission. There is also zero evidence of cannibalistic encounters.
Records indicate that the plane suffered engine failures and crashed into the ocean, with no evidence of an encounter with inhabitants, let alone cannibals. Moreover, the aircraft involved was an A-20 Havoc, designed for two crew members — not the single-engine plane Biden described.
Supporters of President Trump point to instances where he has honored military personnel and veterans, arguing that Biden’s stories are not only factually incorrect but also unfair in their portrayal of the former president. Trump’s camp has robustly refuted claims of him calling fallen soldiers “suckers” and “losers,” framing these allegations as political smears.
Of course, voters who pay attention have known for many decades that Joe Biden is more than willing to bend the truth beyond recognition for political gain. He dropped out of the 1988 Democratic presidential primary due to controversies surrounding allegations of plagiarism and questions about his academic record. His campaign flamed out after it was revealed that he had plagiarized parts of political speeches from British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock without proper attribution. Biden was also challenged over misrepresenting his academic record. He lied about his academic standing in law school at Syracuse and his acts of plagiarism as a student.
